BLOOD CANCER, HLA TYPES AND THE NEEDLE IN THE HAYSTACK

  • Together we’ll conquer blood cancer
  • Already 7,7 million stem cell donors registered in the battle against blood cancer
  • Be a real life-saver with your stem cell donation

Every 16 minutes somebody in Germany receives the shattering news that they have been diagnosed with blood cancer. Many patients are children and young people whose only chance of recovery is a stem cell donation.

However, one in five patients does not find a donor. DKMS (German Blood Marrow Donor Center) tries to help blood cancer patients who are at risk of dying. All over the world. For many patients the only chance of a cure is the transplantation of healthy stem cells from a matching donor.

Finding and contacting this one donor is the life-saving task of the charitable non-profit-making organization DKMS. Its operations are focused on the long-term fulfilment of its vision: conquering blood cancer.

In pursuing this goal, it has come a long way since DKMS was founded in 1991. Yet blood cancer still has not been conquered. This is why DKMS works tirelessly to become better and to save even more patients.
