Together against Alzheimer’s – fund research, give hope.
- Funding innovative research projects to find a cure for Alzheimer’s
- Supporting patients and families with reliable information
- Raising awareness about dementia in society
Alzheimer’s disease gradually destroys memory, consciousness and personality. For people with Alzheimer’s and their families, this is often a very painful and distressing process.
For over 30 years, we have been working through our independent research funding to ensure that Alzheimer’s becomes curable. In addition, we support those affected and anyone interested by providing comprehensive information on Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Our vision is a future without Alzheimer’s: a future in which people can grow old with dignity and in good mental health.
The Alzheimer Research Initiative e.V. (AFI) is a non-profit organisation that holds the donation certificate issued by the German Donations Council e.V. Since 1995, AFI has been using donations to fund research projects carried out by dedicated dementia researchers. Since 2025, AFI has also provided funding for care research. Through free brochures and on its website, AFI provides information about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Since its foundation, the association has supported more than 470 research projects with over €20.7 million and distributed around one million guides and brochures. The AFI’s ambassador is the journalist and sports presenter Okka Gundel. Further information on the association’s work and how to donate can be found at www.alzheimer-forschung.de.
